How does Mr. Rebates work?
Mr. Rebates rewards with you cash-back rebates when shopping through their site. You must first create an account. Login to Mr. Rebates and begin your online shopping from their home page. You will receive a rebate based on your purchase price and depending on the store you shop at.
The only action required to get a cash-back rebate is to simply click on your desired store and make your purchase in that same click session. Your click-through from Mr. Rebates activates a code in the store's shopping cart that will make sure that you are credited with the rebate.
What's the best way to use Mr. Rebates?
Regular Purchases: What online purchases do you regularly make? Start with these items. If you usually purchase printer ink/toner, office supplies, coffee, Christmas presents, books online, look through the participating stores at Mr. Rebates and earn some cash-back for purchases you're already making.
Search and Research: If your usual store is not listed, see who else offers the product and if it's at a comparable price. For example, Amazon.com does not participate in this site, but Barnes and Noble.com does. If you can buy the same item at the same price, why not earn a few dollars for purchasing it? You can search by Product as well as by Store.
Coupons and Gift Cards: You can apply sales and specials and still earn cash back. Do you have frequent shopper points at a store or a gift card? Use it to pay for your purchase and you still earn a cash-back rebate even though it didn't cost you anything! (See restrictions when you first click on the link from Mr. Rebates.)
Free Shipping: Most online stores offer free shipping once you hit a certain price point. For example, coffeeforless.com offers free shipping when you order at least $50, so I always order at least $50 in my purchase so I earn cash back and don't pay for shipping.
Gifts: If you shop for friends and family who don't live close to you, you may already shop online to have gifts shipped directly to them. You can earn cash back on presents you're buying for others. I have shopped for several wedding presents this past year and earned a little bit back in the process by beginning at Mr. Rebates.
How soon do rebates post to my account?
Rebates usally take 3-5 days to post to your account. You will receive an email from Mr. Rebates confirming your purchase. They can take longer than that to post to your account, though. The official policy is that it can take up to 7 days from the shipment of your order to post to your account.
How soon can I get paid?
Mr. Rebates holds your rebates for 90 days. This is the only drawback to the program so if you can't wait three months to get some cash back, this is not the program for you. Once you get your account underway, and you're making regular purchases, you will have a steady flow of cash back rebates in your account.
They have to do this to ensure purchases are "real". There has to be some kind of lag time so that people don't take advantage of buying through a program and making returns.
The rebates will show in your account as "Pending Rebates" until they have passed the 90 day mark. At the point they move into the "Available Rebates" listing. Once your account has at least $10 in "Available Rebates" you can get your cash back.
How so I receive my cash back?
You can request a check to be mailed to you or you can have the money transferred to your PayPal account! How great is that! They process all rebate checks at the beginning of the month, so if you make your request on the 17th or the 30th, it will still be processed at the beginning of the next month. You could save up your rebates until Christmas shopping time or you could set a regular time each month to request a check.
